Buckton - J Neil Weller, 91, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011, at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, under the care of Hospice. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Neil was born on May 10, 1919 in the Town of Stockholm, son of the late Rex and Louise Reil Weller. He served his country in the U. S. Army. He took over the family dairy farm, but his passion was woodworking. He spent most of his life as a carpenter, known for his acute attention to detail. As you travel the North Country, you will see over 300 bluebird houses on numbered posts that Neil and his neighbor built, to help re-populate the area. He loved the outdoors; either hunting or fishing, bird watching, picking berries or just taking hikes in the woods. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Neil and Carol McClain of Malone, Nick and Gail McClain of Rochester, Kim McClain of Hannawa Falls, and Kathy and Wayne Norse of Levittown, PA; and his neighbors, Wayne and Sue LaBaff of Winthrop. Neil was predeceased by his sister and brother in law, Janet M. and Harold W. Dunn and great nephew, Matt Cuthbertson. Friends and family may call at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, Saturday from 1 to 5, with a Service of Remembrance at 5pm. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Buckton. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in his memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, Inc., 6805 U. S. Highway 11, Potsdam, NY 13676; Canton Potsdam Hospital Memorial Fund, 50 Leroy Street, Potsdam, NY 13676 or the Potsdam Animal Shelter, 17 Madrid Ave., Potsdam, NY 13676.
