A Mass of Christian Burial for Cecelia A. Curtis, 84, of Brookdale, will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30am at St. Patrick's Church in Brasher Falls. Her family will receive friends at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8. Burial will take place in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Brasher Falls.
Mrs. Curtis passed away after a long illness on Thursday, April 21, 2011 while under the care of Hospice at the home of her daughter in Central Square NY, where she had resided since June 2010.
Cecelia "Sally" (White) Curtis; is survived by her daughter and son in law, Jane and Jacques "Jack" Monica of Central Square, her sister; Lillian Dockum of Raleigh North Carolina ,her brother; Louis White of Syracuse, and several nieces and nephews. Five brothers; John, Steve, Francis, Albert, William, and one sister Margaurite, predeceased her.
Sally was born on April 8, 1927 in Massena, daughter of the late Louis A White (Luigi A Bianchi) of Fontana Liri, Frosinone, Lazio, Italy and Lillian Bancroft of Massena, NY. Louis was the former proprietor of a popular Barber shop on South Main Street in Massena in the 30' and 40's. `
Sally worked at several places including Alcoa in Massena and Sears in Watertown but was best known as a cashier at the A&P Grocery store. On August 16, 1958 she was married to William John Curtis in Massena at Sacred Heart Church by the Rev Jack Downs. Mr. Curtis worked in the foundry at General Motors.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls, where she often took part in volunteering for church activities such as bingo and teaching.
