Buckton – William J. DuBois, 79, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at his home, peacefully with his family and Hospice caring for his needs. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Mr. DuBois was born on June 24, 1931 in Malone, son of the late Leon O. and Anna R. Roy DuBois. He attended Buckton School and then St. Joseph’s Academy in Brasher Falls. In 1950, he entered the U. S. Navy, served during the Korean War, and received a Honorable Discharge in 1953. He married Shirley Hartson on February 20, 1971 at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls. Mr. DuBois owned and operated his dairy farm in Buckton for 41 years. He was well respected by his peers; receiving the award for “Dairy of Distinction” and many “Super Milk Awards”. He was a member of the Dairyman’s League, Farm Bureau, Agway Committeeman, Town of Stockholm-Grievance Board and the Zoning Board. Upon his retirement he enjoyed traveling, woodworking and landscaping his property. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; three children: Wanda and Matt Malette of Hopkinton, Seneca and Tony Harris of Vermont and Burton DuBois of North Carolina; one sister, Carol Howard of Hannawa Falls; ten grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 4 great grandsons. One brother, Roy W. DuBois predeceased him. There will be no callings hours; a Celebration of his Life will be held Saturday June 25th from noon to 4:00pm at Knights of Columbus in Brasher Falls.
