Dickinson Center - Mavis L. Provost, 83, passed away Tuesday (Sept. 20, 2011) evening at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, Plattsburgh. Arrangements are entrusted with the Hammill Funeral Home, St. Regis Falls. Mavis was born April 21, 1928 in Dickinson Center, daughter of the late Harrison and Treatise (LaVare) Baker and received her education locally in Dickinson Center. She married James Provost April 8, 1950; together they shared in a devoted union, as well as many memories. With the love and support of her husband James, he comforted her and took care of her, as her health failed due to ALS. Mavis cherished all the times spent with her family and friends, and as they would get ready to leave Mavis would ask them "what's your rush". However whenever she saw a beautiful flower, it seemed to brighten her day. She is survived by her husband, James, her six children; Nancy Parks of St. Regis Falls, Barbara Upton and her companion Hank Robar of Potsdam, James H. Provost of Dickinson Center, Darlene Dow and her companion Michael Yaddow of North Bangor, Kevin and Kelly Provost of Santa Clara, Tammy Provost and her companion Ken Powers of North Bangor, fifteen grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Robert Spinner of Malone. Mavis is predeceased by a brother Gene Baker and a sister Elma Jandrew. Family and friends may call at the Hammill Funeral Home, Friday from 4 to 7pm. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday at 10am at the funeral home. Interment will be in Sand Hill Cemetery, Dickinson. Memorial contributions in her honor can be made to the St. Regis Falls Vol. Fire and Rescue. Memories and condolences can be shared with Mavis's family at www.hammillfh.com
