Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls. Mr. Provost was born on May 14, 1926 in Utica, son of the late Amedia and Dorothy (LaBounty) Provost. He received his education in local rural schools, which his family recalled stories of his time at the Santa Clara school. He married Mavis Baker on April 8, 1950, they shared a loving union of 61 years. For 20 years of their marriage, he attended to her needs as Mavis' health declined with her affliction of ALS. He lost the love of his life on September 20, 2011. James was employed with the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway and then went to ALCOA in Massena, working in the pot rooms. He retired in 1988 after 35 dedicated years. James was an outdoorsman; for a time he was a Guide at the Buckhorn Hunting Club and just for himself, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. His family joked how he would comment, "I took more deer than anyone in the North Country." He was also a member of the St. Regis Falls Sportsman Club.
