Obituary of Eileen Tierney
Nicholville- Eileen (Murray) Tierney, 87, passed away Friday, July 20, 2012 at the Fletcher-Allen Medical Center in Burlington VT, with the love and support of her family.
Arrangements are entrusted with the Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls.
Eileen was born in County Monaghan, Ireland on July 16, 1925 to the late John and Ann (McKenna) Murray. She was raised and educated in Ireland, then migrated to the United States in 1951. Eileen married Thomas B. Tierney February 15, 1955. Thomas passed away on March 10, 1985.
Eileen had a warm heart and a nurturing spirit. Always providing and caring for her family; she still found time to volunteer and help others. Eileen was very involved her community; she volunteered at the Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and was very active in the St. Regis Falls Adult Center. For years she baked for their fundraisers and enjoyed bingo every Tuesday. She participated in the Saints booster club and later in life, Eileen took pleasure in painting. She loved her children and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children; Anna and Joseph Cole of St. Regis Falls, Eileen Greene of NYC, Patricia Tierney of CT, James and Lisa Tierney of Queens, and Sean Tierney of Nicholville, 9 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren, her brother John Murray of Monroe, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Along with her husband, Eileen is predeceased by her son, Thomas Tierney, and her siblings; Eugene Murray, Frank Murray, Jerry Murray, Anna (Murray) McCarthy and Cathal Murray.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 at the funeral home. Fr. Alfred Fish will offer a prayer service at 8pm at the conclusion of visitation.
A memorial service in her honor will be held in Flushing, NY at St. Andrew Avellino Church on Monday July 30, 2012 at 10:45am, with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
