North Lawrence - Elizabeth J. Engle, 80, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2012 at her home in French Village, MO. Local arrangements are entrusted with the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Elizabeth was born on March 8, 1932 in Carthage, daughter of the late Herbert King and Katherine (McMullen) King -Meacham. She married Robert J. Engle on June 17, 1950, at St. Lawrence Church with Rev. Bartholomew O'Connell celebrating. Mr. Engle passed away on March 1, 2010. Betty was a very giving person; she would crochet, bake and donate her time to help others. She enjoyed music and doing math puzzles to relax. Betty was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church in North Lawrence; a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus # 2176 Ladies Auxiliary in Brasher Falls; a charter member of the VFW # 7326 Ladies Auxiliary in North Lawrence. She is survived by her children, Robert and Rosamond Engle, Jr. of Oreana, IL, Patricia and Robert Goforth of Lemay, MO, Carolyn and Larry Macklin of French Village, MO, James and June Engle of North Lawrence and Christopher Engle of French Village, MO; two sisters, Charmaine McLaughlin and Patricia Nurney, both of North Lawrence; one brother, William Meacham of North Lawrence; 13 Grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, one son, Michael K. Engle in 2003 and granddaughter, Carrie Lynn Goforth. Betty's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 am at St. Lawrence Church in North Lawrence with burial to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in North Lawrence. There will be no calling hours. Those wishing to do so please consider donations in Betty's memory to St. Lawrence Church or the Altar Rosary Society.
