Winthrop- Mr. Kevin W. Dunbar, 52, passed away unexpectedly on January 21, 2013. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Kevin was born in Potsdam on July 11, 1960 to the late Orville W. and Alberta V. (Page) Dunbar. He was raised and educated locally; attending the Culinary Arts Program at BOCES, graduating from St. Lawrence Central class of 1979.
After high school, he began work as a chef at the Village Inn in Massena. Eager to learn, Kevin quickly mastered his culinary skills and became an important member of the Village Inn family. He was respected and loved by his co-workers and patrons for almost 34 years as an honest and dedicated person.
Kevin was always inventing new recipes to serve his friends and family, and took great pride in what he presented. His family was very important to him; treating his nieces and nephews like his own kids, as too his dogs Butch and BJ. At home, he loved his TV’s; the bigger, the louder, the better.
He was a good friend to all he met and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
Kevin is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law: Debra and Rodney DeLorme of Winthrop, and Joyce and Mike McDonald of Madrid, one brother and sister-in-law: Kerry Dunbar and Debbie Yandoh of Winthrop, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; aunts and uncles: Doyle Page of Winthrop, Lorraine and Lloyd Moore of Potsdam, Yvonne and Danny Frye of Cape Cod, and Janet Page of Winthrop, his extended family: Cathy, Shawna, and Danny Cecot of Massena, also his canine companion, BJ.
Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 at the funeral home. Kevin’s Funeral Service and Celebration of Life will be Saturday at 11AM at the Victory Baptist Church in Winthrop.
Following the funeral service, a remembrance gathering and luncheon will be held at the American Legion in Winthrop from 1-5, family and friends are respectfully invited.
