North Lawrence- Mrs. Gilberte "Bet" Piche', 81, passed away peacefully Thursday April 11, 2013 at her home surrounded by the love and support of her family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Bet was born on August 26, 1931 in St. Albert Ontario, Canada to the late Leon and Yvonne (Thilbert) Quesnel. She graduated from St. Albert High School. On November 24, 1951 Gilberte married Gerald Piche' in Chrysler, Ontario. They shared in a blessed union of 61 years. On a very snowy day in November of 1961 the family made a special and unforgettable journey from Canada to Lawrenceville.
Gilberte took pride in caring for her family and home, completing daily tasks with much grace. She was very dedicated and had a compassionate heart that loved unconditionally.
Bet learned to and enjoyed sewing, eventually guiding her to her passion; quilting. She quilted with superior precision and her attention to detail was impeccable. Each of her quilts was intricate in design and unique in their own way. Bet will always be remembered in the hearts of whom she taught her quilting skills to, and by those who have had the honor of receiving one of her special quilts as a gift.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald, her children: Serge and Cathy Piche' of Ogdensburg, Sue and Richard Lamay of North Lawrence, Danielle and Roy Sparks of Long Sault, Ontario, and Angele and Randy LePage of Massena, 6 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Her brother Yves Quesnel, predeceased her.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation. Gilberte's Funeral service and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday April 20th at 11:00am at St. Lawrence Church in North Lawrence with Rev. Andrew Amyot officiating. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
For those wishing to express an act of kindness, memorial contributions may be made in Bet's honor to Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
