Obituary of Jean A. Grant

Canton- Mrs. Jean A. (LaClair) Grant, 83, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, November 27, 2012 at the United Helpers Maplewood Nursing Home, surrounded by the love, comfort, and support of her family. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Jean was born in Brasher on August 26, 1930 to the late Noah and Irene (Gooshaw) LaClair. She was raised and educated locally, graduating from Brasher Falls High School. On September 14, 1952 she married Richard Grant. The couple made a life and family built with faith, dedication, and love. They shared a blessed union of 56 years, until the time of Richards passing on May 1, 2008.
Along with raising her family and caring for the home, Jean assisted in running the family business; Grants Riding Stables, for many years. She had a love for the horses that was clearly evident.
Jean had a knack and love for garage sales, and was the best “wheeler & dealer”. Her family will always remember if something was for sale for a nickel, Jean would be sure to get it for a penny. She was talented in sewing, crocheting, and knitting.
Jean and Richard cherished and enjoyed their retired years together. They would travel to Florida often; eventually owning a home and becoming long time residents of Wildwood FL.
Religion and faith had a huge impact on Jean, it was very important to her throughout her entire life. She grew up attending and was a member of St. Patrick Church, and later in life was also a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam.
Jean was also a member of the Center Riding Club in Parishville.
She is survived by, her children: Terry and Kathy Grant of Buckton, Dale and Colleen Grant of Canton, and Vickie and David Butherus of Fairbanks, AK., her grandchildren: William and Danielle Vivlamore, Nichole and Brian Dianoski, all of Fairbanks AK., Danielle and Will Parry-Hill of Raleigh, NC., Christopher Grant and Candace Brassard of Canton, and Katelyn Grant of Boulder, CO., and 10 great-grandchildren.
Survivors also include, 4 sisters: Joyce and Robert Normile of North Lawrence, Elaine LaMarche of Massena, Ruth and Keith Thompson of Potsdam, and Betty Mooney of Deland, FL., 3 brothers, Paul and Kathy LaClair of Ft. Jackson, Francis and Patricia LaClair of Atlanta, GA., and Keith LaClair of Syracuse, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
Jean was predeceased by 2 brothers, Noah “Buddy”, and Carl LaClair, and a sister, Rita LaRock.
Jean’s Funeral Service will be celebrated Friday, December 6 at 10:00am at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls with Rev Garry Giroux presiding. Burial will take place at Bixby Cemetery in Norfolk.
In lieu of flowers, for those wishing to express an act of kindness, memorial contributions in Jean’s honor may be made to: The Alzheimer’s Association of Central NY, or to St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls.
