Obituary of Ray J. Allen

Brasher Falls- Mr. Ray "Corky" J. Allen Jr., 71, passed away peacefully January 2, 2014 at the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena, where he had been a resident since 2009. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Ray was born in Malone on June 8, 1942 to the late Ray J. and Helen (Shirley) Allen Sr. He was raised and educated locally, attending St. Mary's School in Massena. Ray worked construction for Jimmy Penanti Construction in Long Island for 5 years before moving back to the North Country. Blessed with patience and talent; Corky was a very skilled artist. He took great pleasure in creating paintings, and more recently creating them for his friends and family at the nursing home. He was very fond of the friendships made and the kindness shown to him. He is survived by his: sister-in-law, Linda Allen of Brasher Falls, his uncle, Philip and Joan Shirley of Colorado, nieces and nephews, Mark and Lynne Allen of Norfolk, and Wendy and Paul LaClair of Brasher Falls, and his great-nephew, Jesse Allen of Norfolk. Corky was predeceased by his brother Richard P. Allen. In keeping with his family's wishes, there will be no services at this time. A graveside service will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Brushton in the spring. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.hammillfh.com.
