Obituary of Lawrence Susice
Lawrence “Woody” Susice, 81, passed away peacefully at Massena Memorial Hospital on Sunday, April 13, 2014. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Lawrence was born on February 28, 1933 in Piercefield, son of the late Bert and Jennie (Cramer) Susice. He attended school in St. Regis Falls and in 1951, joined the U. S. Army to proudly serve during the Korean War. He married Barbara J. Palmer on June 18, 1960 at St. Peter’s Church in Santa Clara with Fr. Meehan celebrating. They shared 44 years in a blessed union focused around their family. Barbara passed away on June 25, 2004.
Throughout the years, Woody worked at ALCOA, owned and operated Susice’s Garage in St. Regis Falls and went to work for St. Regis Falls Central School as a bus driver and mechanic. He retired in November 1991 as the Transportation Supervisor. He was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church and a member of the St. Regis Falls American Legion.
He took pride in his gardening skills and woodworking, enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing and liked games of chance especially bingo. His family was his life, enjoying anytime spent with his children and grandchildren.
Woody is survived by his children; April and Robert Haynes of Malone, Tawney and Mel Farmer of Honeoye Falls, Toni Fraser and Roger Hartson, Jr. of St. Regis Falls, and Teena Susice and Bruce Bradish of Massena; eight grandchildren, Shawna Susice of Rochester, Cory Fraser of St. Regis Falls, Colin Farmer of Harker Heights, TX, Evan Fraser of St. Regis Falls, Julie Haynes of Erie, PA, Chloe Farmer of Honeoye Falls, Lynne Haynes of Malone and Roger Hartson, III of St. Regis Falls; his siblings, Jennie Wait of Malone, Robert and Peggy Susice of Moira, Irene Marsh of Moira, Shirley and Harold Mushtare of FL, David Susice of St. Regis Falls, Jackie and Bill Maloney of Spokane, WA, and Joan and Kerry Orcutt of Aiken, SC and his faithful companion, Sam. He was predeceased by four brothers, Albert, Francis, Homer and Jerry.
Visitation will be Saturday from 2 to 4 at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Woody’s Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 21 at 11:00 am at St. Ann’s Church in St. Regis Falls with Fr. Fish celebrating.
His family would like to thank the staff at the Highland Nursing Home, the ICU staff at Massena Memorial Hospital and Dr. McCall for their kindness and compassion.
