Adam Paul Males, 69, of Brasher Falls, NY passed away on April 17, 2014 at Massena Memorial Hospital due to complications following a stroke. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Males, his parents, Adam and Florence Males, and a son, Adam (Bill) Males. He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Males of San Francisco, CA, his sister, Janet Preisser (Jack) of Williamsburg, VA; nephews John Preisser (Lisa) of Chapel Hill, NC, Mark Preisser (Kathryn) of Southern Shores, NC, and niece Christina Preisser (John) of Boston, MA. Paul was a 1963 graduate of Vincentian Institute high school in Albany, NY. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy , serving four years aboard the oil tanker USS Mississinewa (AO-144). He later joined the Army Reserve, having a total of twenty years of military service to his country. As a young man, Paul worked in his father's businesses: first at Males Supermarket on Central Ave. in Albany, NY, then at Males Packing Co. on Second St. in Troy , NY, where he learned the trade of meat processing. After several years, he was hired by the US Dept. of Agriculture and spent over thirty years as a food safety inspector at several slaughterhouse plants in New York, before retiring in 2004. His passions included cooking on an outdoor grill, putting on firework displays, and spending time in the summer at his camp on Lake Ontario. Paul loved dogs and had many canine companions throughout his life, the last being his beloved, Flash. Paul was known for his generosity, helping relatives and friends in need. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the support and friendship provided to Paul, especially during his final days , to the Ryan siblings: James, Gina, and Debra, and to Paul Cole. Paul's Masss of Chrisitan Burial will be on Thursday, May 15th at 10 am at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls. A graveside service will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Albany on August 14th.
