North Lawrence- Mr. Kenneth "Kay" H. Prosper, 85, passed away peacefully at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Kay was born in Massena on July 1, 1929 to the late Charles and Iva (Sturgeon) Prosper. He was raised and educated locally, graduating from Massena High School in 1948. After graduation Kay proudly served his country in the US ARMY, earning an honorable discharge in 1952. Kenneth was a hard worker who always liked to keep busy. He worked on the St. Lawrence Seaway and throughout life he spent time caring for and raising his hobby farm. For many years Kay hauled milk, the position from which he retired in 1994. Kay was a member of the American Legion in Brushton. He is survived by his children: Paul and Jessica Prosper of North Lawrence, Roxanne Villnave of Malone, and Rebecca and James Westerfield of North Lawrence, his grandchildren: Erica and Tyler Murray, Jessica and Larry Dearborn, David and Josalyn Villnave, Zach Prosper, David Prosper, Brielle Prosper, and Bradley Prosper, his great-grandchildren: Haley Murray, Noah Murray, Logan Dearborn, Luke Dearborn, Davany Villnave, and Jayth Villnave, brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Betty Prosper, sisters, Elizabeth Papelian, and Kathy Dann, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Kay was predeceased by his sisters, Florence Mungari, Mary Lou Metruck, and Linda Fiacco. Visitation will be Monday from 4-7pm at the funeral home. Kenneth's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00am at St. Lawrence Church in North Lawrence. Burial will take place in the spring at Sand Hill Cemetery in Dickinson. Following Kay's service at church, his family respectfully invites friends and family to join them for a luncheon at the American Legion in Brushton. For those wishing to express an act of kindness, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kenneth's honor to the Canton-Potsdam Hospital ICU. Poppy, the man, the myth, the legend; loved by family, friends, and Louie! Memories and condolences may be shared with his family at www.hammillfh.com.
