Massena- Mrs. Mary A. Donie, 73, passed away July 28, 2015 at the Massena Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Mary was born in Massena on March 4, 1942 to the late Emmett H. and Albertine (Barcomb) Duprey. She married Raymond M. Donie on October 6, 1961. She attended Holy Family Catholic School, and graduated from Massena High School. Later in life Mary attended the Mater Dei College in Ogdensburg where she had the pleasure of graduating alongside her daughter, Teresa. Faith was a vital part of Mary's life. A parishioner of St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls, Mary was very involved with the parish office and often volunteered her time. Blessed with her own talent, she created and embroidered an Altar Cloth for the Church that is still used today, especially around Christmas time. She also attended Sacred Heart Church in Massena. Mary enjoyed all sorts of crafts, but was partial to knitting, crocheting, and her plastic canvases. She is survived by 5 daughters: Teresa Donie of Troy, Brenda and Steven Miller of Warwick, RI, Sheri and David Montgomery Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO, Rebecca and Ricky Newtown of Winthrop, and Karen Donie of Winthrop, her grandchildren, who she loved and cherished dearly, Sarah Miller and Daniel Miller of Warwick, RI, Christopher and Amanda Montgomery of Sioux Falls, SD, Meghann and Scott Cheney of Barksdale, LA, Kelsey Newtown and Ryan Newtown of Winthrop, Miranda Dodge and her fiancé Brian LaBier of Winthrop and Hailey Dodge of Winthrop, great-grandchildren: Samantha Mae and Theodore Montgomery and Elijah and Adelynn Cheney. Survivors also include Mary's siblings: Bernadette Miller of Massena, Emmett G. and Mary Florence Duprey of Norwood, Anna and Neal Miller of Canton, and Marilyn Rivers of Massena, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Amy Snyder, sister, Eileen LaHair, and a brother Ernest Duprey. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 at the funeral home. Mary's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:00 at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls; burial will follow in the parish cemetery. For those wishing to express an act of kindness, memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Church or to St. Patrick Altar & Rosary Society.
