Winthrop - Gerald T. White, 79, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 27, 2017, at his daughter and son in law's home, Karen and George Arquitt, under their care and the care of Hospice. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Gerald was born on February 4, 1938 in Norfolk, son of the late Eli and Viola (Rust) White. He married Beverly Rust on November 23, 1958. They shared 48 years in a committed bond prior to her passing on January 23, 2007. Gerald was a dairy farmer and worked at the following to support his family throughout his life; St. Lawrence Seaway, Green's Sawmill, Phippen's Trucking and St. Lawrence Hauler. He had a unique skill in mechanics and was able to fix practically anything. He was known as the "Tractor Man", as he could repair and rebuild any type of tractor that was brought to him. He is survived by his children; Thomas and Glenda White of Texas, Timothy White of Helena, Barbara White of Chase Mills, Patricia Jenkins of St. Albans, VT, Karen and George Arquitt of Winthrop, Joanne and Brian White-Brown of Florida, Donna and Paul Roy of Norfolk, Penny and Tim Arquitt of Stockholm, three brothers, Bob White of Massena, Phillip and Donna White of West Stockholm and Joe White of Massena, one sister, Carol Ackerman of Saranac Lake, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Beverly, great grandson, Kyle Cootware, brother, Raymond White, sisters, Shirley Burlingame, Lily Montroy and Doreen Davis. Visitation will be held Wednesday at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, from 10 am to 12 noon with his funeral services at noon, with Rev. Lee Sweeney officiating. Burial will follow in Carville Cemetery in Helena.
