Winthrop - Linda M. Snell, 67, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at Canton-Potsdam Hospital with the love and support of her familiy. Linda was born in Potsdam on February 3, 1943, the daughter of the late Bernard John and Eva Orilla Shampine-Crump Newtown. She attended Buckton School and St. Lawrence Central. She married Brian P. Patraw in 1961; he passed away on August 13, 1964. On May 15, 1965, she married Gordon L. Snell at the Church of the Holy Cross in Hopkinton with Fr. Plante celebrating. Gordon passed away June 26, 2010. Through the years, Linda worked at Rufa's Restaurant in Winthrop, the Waffle Shop in Brasher Falls and operated the Winthrop Bar with her husband. She was a proud grandmother, following her grandchildren in their sports and other endeavors. At home, she enjoyed knitting, crosswords and puzzles with occasional trips to play bingo. She is survived by two sons, Wayne and Stephanie Patraw of Winthrop, Raymond Patraw of Cicero; two daughters, Cindy and Mark Small of Ogdensburg and Kimberly Ann and Ken Tabor of Ft. Jackson; grandchildren, Brian Patraw of Massena, Rylan, Quinn and Donavan Patraw of Winthrop, Joseph Tabor of Montana, Kyle and Kristopher Tabor of Ft. Jackson, William and Sydney Patraw of Cicero; two brothers, Albon and Pat Newtown of Massena and Gerald and Sue Newtown of Winthrop; one sister, Barbara Scott of Lawrenceville; several nieces and nephews. One sister, Reva Marion and one half-brother, Earl Crump, predeceased her. Her family will receive friends at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, Sunday from 5 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 am at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls. Burial will be in Union (Buckton) Cemetery in the Town of Stockholm. Her family has asked for friends to join them after the burial at the American Legion Post # 514 in Winthrop for a luncheon.
