Brasher Falls – Hillrich T. E. “Hill” Rosen, 89, passed away Friday, August 20, 2010 at University Hospital SUNY at Upstate in Syracuse, with the love and support of his family. Mr. Rosen was born in Worchester, Massachusetts, on March 10, 1921, son of the late Gustaf and Hilda Holmberg Rosen. He attended schools in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. As soon as he was of age, he entered the Merchant Marines during World War II, supplying our troops in the war effort, and served several tours of duty. He married Minnie M. Nemier on September 12, 1949 in Massachusetts and they moved to the Sandy Creek area and raised three girls. Minnie passed away in April of 1977. On October 23, 1981, he married Iona (Mossow) Francis at his home in Brasher Falls, and added to the family with three step-sons. Mr. Rosen was a refrigeration specialist, working for Sheffield’s, Sealtest and Kraft Foods. He retired as Maintenance Supervisor from the North Lawrence plant after 43 years.
Mr. Rosen was a past member of the Sandy Creek Fire Department; a member of Brasher Lodge #541 F & AM; and the American Legion Post #514 in Winthrop. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan; and enjoyed carpentry and welding.
Hill is survived by his wife, Iona; three daughters, Elsie and her husband, Dale Steele and Nancy Robertson of Pierrepont Manor, Hilda and her husband Steve McDuffie of Sandy Creek; three step-sons, Dale and his wife, Linda Francis of Chiefland, FL, William and his wife, Rhonda Francis of Louisville and Wayne and Sue Francis of Massena; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
His family will receive friends at the Hammill Funeral Home on Tuesday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8. He will be taken to Sandy Creek for visitation, Wednesday from 12 to 2 pm at the Summerville Funeral Home on Harwood Drive with a funeral service at 2 pm with Rev. David Rudd officiating. Burial will be in Boylston & Sandy Creek Cemetery in Lacona.
