Winthrop- Mr. Donald G. Spiridakis Sr., 73, passed away Thursday September 9, 2010 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital with the love and support of his family. Donald was born on October 8, 1936 in Jersey City, NJ to the late Nicholas and Frances (Gloncewicz) Spiridakis. He graduated from Ferris High School in Jersey City. On May 21, 1960 he married Veronica "Ronnie" Rehonic, at St. Michaels Church in Jersey City, with whom he shared 50 years filled with much love and devotion. Together with their family they relocated to northern NY in 1977, residing in Parishville. Then in 1982 Don and Ronnie moved to Stockholm, NY, where together with their love developed a warm, beautiful home on Converse Rd. Donald was employed at the Norfolk paper mill, where he retired from at the age of 64. He is survived by his wife and soul mate, Ronnie, his children; Laurie and Charles Cameron of Winthrop, and Donald and Julee' Spiridakis Jr. of Winthrop, 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, his sister; Dolores Jamele of Barre, VT., his brother; Nicholas Spiridakis of Sabastopol, CA., numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his canine companion bulldog, Peaches. Always close to his heart was the memory of his daughter Sandra F. Spiridakis, who preceded him in death on November 17, 2002. Those who knew and loved Donald remember him as a home and family man. He was considerate of others and dedicated to caring for his family. Don enjoyed relaxing at Five Falls Camp in So. Colton, there is where he found much peace and enjoyment with family and friends. Since a young boy, Don had a passion for hockey; he was the NY Rangers biggest fan. He also had a soft spot in his heart for all animals. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a parishioner of St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls. Donald's Funeral and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday September 13, at 10:00am at St. Patrick Church with the Rev. Garry Giroux officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. For those wishing to do so, memorial contributions may be made in Donald's honor to; Cerebral Palsy of the North Country, 4 Commerce Ln. Canton NY, 13617 or The Potsdam Animal Shelter, 17 Madrid Ave. Potsdam NY, 13676. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
