Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Winthrop- Mr. Charles L. Thomas Sr., 72, passed away Saturday November 16, 2019 at his home surrounded by his children and family. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop where services will be held on Wednesday November 20th. Calling hours will be from 11 AM – 1 PM and Charlie’s funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM with Pastor Charles Sheer officiating. Private burial will follow at West Stockholm Cemetery.

Charlie was born on July 10, 1947 at home in Lawrenceville to the late Francis D. and Laura M. (Dashnaw) Thomas. He attended St. Lawrence Central School where he tended to get away with everything, and managed to become the teachers’ pet.

He was blessed with a lifelong friendship and companionship that he found with Charlene M. Foster. They shared 36 years of dedication to each other, their family and cherished friends. Charlene passed away on August 20, 2013.

All his life Charlie was an avid outdoorsman when it came to work and for leisure. He worked in the woods for many years; logging, cutting wood, and tapping trees for maple syrup. Charlie enjoyed hunting, camping, and 4-wheeling, loved western movies and his dogs.

He was a true family man with a quick sense of humor. He was always there to help his family when needed and was “all about them babies”; his great-grandchildren.

Charlie is survived by his children: Jolene Price and her husband Ellison of North Lawrence, Jennifer Kerr and her husband Harry of Massena, and Charles Thomas Jr. and his wife Laurie of Winthrop; 3 grandchildren: Skye, Allison, and Tyler Price; and 4 great-grandchildren: Zaiden, Jaxson, Noah, Liam, and one on the way; siblings, Doug Thomas of Winthrop, Margaret (Eddie) Ryan of MA., John (Sharon) Thomas of Massena; and his beloved feline companion, Butterscotch.

Besides his parents and companion Charlene, Charlie was predeceased by his sister Maude Haskell and a sister in infancy, Frances Thomas.

Flowers are respectfully declined. For those wishing to express an act of kindness, memorial contributions can be made in Charlie’s honor to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
