Obituary of Viola A. Westerberg

Brasher Falls – Viola A. Westerberg, 92, passed away Saturday morning, December 4, 2021 at the Highland Nursing Home in Massena with her family at her bedside. Viola was born on August 16, 1929 in Hartford, Connecticut, daughter of the late John and Catherine (Sudac) Rataic. She married George Rowland, who died at a young age and married Merwin Westerberg on June 3, 1972. He also predeceased her. Through her years she worked at various restaurants, with one of her last being a waitress at Bradley Airport in Windsor Locks, CT. She grew up in Connecticut and resided there until 1986. Then moved to Orange City, Florida until the last few years where she resided in Brasher Falls, NY, with her daughter, Gail Moreau. She is survived by three daughters, Diane and Anthony Scanlon of Ireland, Gail Moreau of Brasher Falls and Lynne and Richard Scheble of Deltona, FL, seven grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren, one sister, Sally Ann DePietro of East Hartford, CT, two brothers, Robert and Pat Rataic of RI and Joseph and Joan Rataic of Vernon, CT, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one son, Thomas Rowland, four sisters, Mary Bucchere, Mildred ”Annie” Desovich, Alice Ullmar and Margaret DaBica, three brothers, Nicholas “Mickey” Rataic, Michael Rataic and Frank Rataic, two step siblings, Katie Emerson and Pete Rataic. Following her wishes, her family will honor her life privately.
