I knew Carl when I was a student at St. Lawrence University. I attended auctions while a student from 1985-1989. Carl was generous with his knowledge while at the auctions. A friendly and approachable gentleman who had a passion for the past.
He will be missed.

I was so sad to hear about the passing of the beloved Historian. I've known Carlton for many years and have always been intrigued by the many many stories he would share with me. He was so knowledgeable on his history. He would always compliment me on all I do and was a huge supporter. I don't know what I'll do without him here. Miss you Carlton - Rest well, my friend. You deserve it!

Carl was a classmate from Nursing School days and a dear friend. Even back in those days Carl was always searching the area in which we were affiliating at …for that special antique. Carl always had a big smile, a little joke, and a chuckle to greet you. I guess i will remember Carl as a “Renaissance Man”… he possessed an amazing amount of knowledge in multiple areas and so willing to share it with all. Deepest sympathies to Carl’s family and thoughts and prayers at this sad time. Al and Judy Premo

I graduated with Carlton in 1961 and have fond memories of him. I lost track of him but would see his name from time to time and it appears he was involved in many things that brought pleasure and comfort to many people, for that I commend and bless him. Rest in peace Carlton.

My deepest condolences to Carl's family and to his dearest friends on your loss. To those of us who shared his passion for local history and the never ending search for the treasures of old, we mourn the loss of a friend and mentor who was in his own right, one of the north country's greatest treasures.

Carlton was a fellow board member of the Almanzo and Laura Ingalls Wilder Association. He was so knowledgeable and truly interested in history and artifacts. One of the most enthusiastic historians I’ve ever met! Not only that, he was kind, giving, and always had a friendly greeting and an interesting story to share. His passing is a huge loss to the communities he served, in both the knowledge he shared and the wonderful man he was. He will be missed!

Carl has been a dear friend of the family since the early sixties. When my brother passed away Carl used to visit a younger boys every Friday night. He and I have stayed in contact. Carl taught me to cane chairs. He deserted me in Canton, California, Sharon Springs, Vermont. In recent years Carl has called often just to check on me and to chat. Carl is one of my dearest friends and he will be missed more than I can say.

Rest In Peace Carl, you were like a grandfather to my brother and i . You taught us how to spot out the right antique and how to tell if it was “authentic” with only a few swipes of a page in them books you have . The memories for going to the wilder farm in the evening to pick up leaves . Or when you pulled me and my brother behind the wagon with the lawn mower and sometimes we would be lucky and fall off the back .If it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t be walking today , you helped transport me from Burlington to Montreal when I was only old enough talk. We shared too many memories. You helped Me start my Avon bottle collection I will always cherish every piece and I was continue to collect . I can say we have traveled almost the entire north country together and more and I will never forget those moments. I miss you carl ~love Nate

Carlton was a great man that will be missed by so many of us in the north country. He was such a wealth of knowledge and gave so much of his time to the county and town historical society’s . Rarely did he ever miss an antique auction that we had in the last 25 years. I could always count on Carlton to help me identify an unusual primitive or early lighting device. I’m grateful l we had a chance to visit just last week.

Sending our condolences to the family. Carl was a Father figure to me. He took our Children as his grandchildren as I met Carl in the military 47 years ago. He took me as his Child. We did a lot of trips together and had lots of fun times as a family. He will be missed tremendously. I hope you get all the antiques you would ever want in Heaven because I know that’s where you are. You were one great man and we are just lost without you. We love you and are lost. May you Rest In Peace. Love you, Love Robert, Karey(Fournier), Nathen, Jered Mulverhill

My sincere condolences to the family of Carlton Stickney. When we were children, we saw each other frequently. However, as years have gone by, I think that the last time I saw him, was at my sister Shirley's funeral, too long ago. How he loved being a historian, and an antique collector. He came to Watertown, to help the Sisters of St. Joseph start their first Heritage Room, adjacent to our Archives. I believe that he took pride in being able to give his talented assistance with this project. There is no doubt in my mind, that he was good at what he did. Our prayers are with you, Charlie and Jimmy, and all of his nieces and nephews. He has been in my prayers for a very long time. I was sorry to hear of his loss, but know that he's enjoying eternal life now, with his parents and brothers who have gone before him. With happy thoughts of Carlton, Sister Norma Bryant, SSJ.

Carlton was a special man who was kind and supportive to many. He was also a great antiquing buddy. I have many memories of good times including building forts, picking strawberries riding Molly the horse and arranging things in both his private museum and storage areas. As a member of his family I am missing him.
His knowledge and activity will be missed by the north country antique and historical associations.
Rest in piece dear cousin.

My condolences to Charlie, Jimmy and the rest of the family and to his friends and acquaintances who served on the various historical committees with him. I’m sure Carlton is rejoicing with so many “Stickneys” that he “met” through researching the family tree and those he actually met in person; as well as townspeople from past generations. RIP Carlton

To the family of my lifelong dear friend. Please know how deeply saddened and heartbroken I am to have lost my friend of 70+ years. I have never known life without the love and support, loyal friendship and kindness of this truly gentle soul. How I will miss his regular telephone calls and his unending support for my daughter in the pursuit of her nursing career. His positivity and encouragement have helped her so much in her goals of advancing her chosen path, parallel to his so many years ago. Since I cannot remember my life without the unwavering friendship of Carlton, I will watch for signs that he is watching over us from above. My visits from Florida to "back home" will no longer have me looking forward to dinner with Carlton. My telephone will be silent on Sunday evenings, but he will be forever remembered in my heart. We so often remarked that not many people can continue friendships for over 70 years, but we did with ease. How I will miss the best friend of my lifetime....
