I knew John and most of his family members very well. He was a hard worker and worked one of the most harmful jobs at Alcoa as a Mechanic/ Millwright. He welded Huge Furnace Doors and breathed in those harmful fumes that Stick Electrode ( Arc Welding ) produced!!!!!!!!! I never really heard him complain. I am sorry I winter in Florida during the winter months and was not able to come home for his services. GOD REST YOUR SOUL JOHNNY MIKE AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT ALWAYS SHINE UPON YOU FOREVER AND EVER!!!!!! You were a little rough around the edges but deep down in you were a great guy and a person you would want on your side no matter what!!!!!! MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND MAY YOUR SOUL AND ALL THE SOULS OF THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED THROUGH THE MERCY OF GOD REST IN PEACE AMEN!!!!!!!! THOMAS CAMERON

My linemate at Canton ATC, so I can attest first hand that "Johnny Mike" was the toughest hockey player anyone would want to encounter ... by far! Being put in the sinbin did not preclude a fight from still ensuing, to the detrement to the opposition.
Johnny Mike only knew how to give enverthing he encounterd 100%, nothing less.
As tough as John was, his heart, friendship, companionship and loyalty were of much larger.
Always with a smile, laugh and a good entertaining story.
We lost a classic man that touched everybody deeply, and will forever be sorely missed!

Mary & Keenan / Lane families,
So sad to hear of Johhny Mike's passing. He was a very unique guy, there was only one Johnny Mike.
Johnny Mike will be remembered as a hard working and exceptionally strong person, inside and out. I don't believe he ever let a situation go by where he would not personally engage with people. A great supporter to family, friends and community.
Johnny Mike is a special part of many great memories growing up in Helena. As kids, at the old Helena rink, we used to adopt names of NHL players, as we skated around. John was always "Wayne Cashman", a rugged Boston Bruin back in the 70's....
RIP - we will sure miss you Johnny Mike,
Jimmy & Anne Lantry

In the early 70’s SLC football was ramping up and JM was in the middle of it all. He was a tough, hard-charging fullback and linebacker and a team leader. He was a “ first in line, follow me” type of player. He was captain of the 1972 undefeated team. His legacy starts there.
Over the years we enjoyed many visits and they usually involved sports, farming, family and politics. He worked hard for what he believed in on the Brasher Town Board…..and his legacy continues.
He was a great person who led a great life….and his legacy lives on in his four wonderful sons and five beautiful grandchildren…
The Mahoneys and Valleys will raise a glass in your honor John Michael Keenan!

The name stuck…Johnny Mike introduced me to Tommy as Aunt Toots…and so it goes. We will miss him dearly. We have a mountain great memories to keep him close in our hearts. He had a way of telling a story, no matter how unbelievable…that made it sound like The Gospel. He lived his life full of caring and love, and he and Mary’s testimony is their wonderful family. I can’t express in words my gratitude to Mary for her devotion to his health and happiness over the last few difficult years. The same for the boys and wives, and all his friends. Cheers Johnny Mike, I love you.

Mrs.Keenan and boys,
I was so saddened to see John's passing. I worked at the plant with John and a few years back would see him at the arena when my nephews played at the varsity level. Anytime I would approach John he would get that big grin and we would have a conversation. I remember a few times trying to get him to lace those skates up one more time to skate Friday night. John was a fellow who would tell you straight how it was like it or not which was extremely refreshing in today's age. My condolences to the entire family.
I will miss his smile and I will miss him. Rest easy buddy.

Mary and Keenan Family,
So many memories -- but perhaps one that stands out above all others for me speaks to Johnny Mike's willingness to stand up against injustice. We were packed into the SLC cafeteria for a school/community meeting -- the teachers stood at the back displaying a unified front, but essentially muzzled to speak out on some troubling issues. It was Johnny Mike who stood up, cleared his throat, and defended the staff. To this day, I remain deeply grateful to him for saying what we could not and I am quite certain that it was his solidarity with us that eventually ended that regime.
Simply put, Johnny Mike was a force of nature.
Ryne and I extend our condolences -- our love and our sorrow -- for your loss. As Ryne said when he heard about his passing, "I cannot imagine a world without Johnny Mike in it."
We know there will be a void without him that will be impossible to fill -- but blessedly you will have so many of his colorful stories, his throaty laughter, and his legacy to ease the pain.
We are truly sorry we cannot be with you, but please know, you are all in our prayers...and Johnny Mike always in our hearts.

I am not 100% sure of the actual year but Ellen and I were pretty young! My guess is the summer of 1973 / 1974! Johnny Mike was the chauffeur and I am pretty sure every single Keenan sibling was in the car with me and my brother! If I am guessing correctly Molly may have been babysitting us and we all went to the CC Dam to swim! I remember every single lap had a kid- which completely makes sense considering there were 7 Keenan’s and 2 of us! Anyway! To this day… every time I hear the Monster Mash song I remember this scenario! I especially remember Johnny Mike singing at the top of his lungs with all of us kids driving on that dirt road! I may be wrong but I swear we were in a green station wagon! So Keenan oh so distant cousins but wonderful Helena neighbors… love to you all and to Mary and family and all the Lanes! Love , hugs and condolences!! Celebrate a life well lived! Slainte!
