Brasher Falls- Robert O. Miller, 73, passed away peacefully Monday, June 27, 2011 in the comfort and privacy of his home with the love and support of his family by his side. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Robert was born on November 14, 1937 in Hopkinton, son of the late Howard N. and Catherine A. Hosmer Miller. He graduated from Parishville High School in 1956. He enlisted in the US Army in 1955 with the reserves and received a Honorable Discharge in 1956.He enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps on Jan. 31, 1956 and received his Honorable Discharge on Jan. 30, 1959 . He married Nancy Nurney at the Church of the Holy Cross in Hopkinton on July 18, 1959. Robert worked for St. Lawrence County and then went to work for Reynold's Metals in Massena in May, 1959. He became a Shift Foreman and retired after 33 years.
Robert was proud of his family; and those that knew him, understood the word "Gentleman". He was always there, supporting the ones he loved. Bob was a passionate card player; being a member of the "NLFD Pitch Team." He was a member of the Trout Brook Hunting Club since 1969 and for over 25 years, he passed on his virtues to many people being a Hunter Safety Instructor. He was a communicant of St. Patrick Church; a Life Member of the Massena Marine Corp League; and a past member of the Hopkinton-Ft. Jackson Fire Dept and the Brasher Falls Fire Dept.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Nancy; two daughters, Cindy of Okinawa, Japan and Sherry of Omer, Michigan; his "adopted kids", Dale and Sally Savage and Greg and Pat Snider, both of Brasher Falls and Liz Dziuban; one brother, Harry A. Miller of Hopkinton; many nieces and nephews. Four brothers, John W., Eugene J., Ira C., Edwin H. and two sisters, Margaret Turner and Catherine Malbone, predeceased him.
His family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 to 3, followed by a service at 3pm. Burial will follow at Hopkinton - Ft. Jackson Cemetery, with Military Honors.
