Massena - Virginia M. Chapman, 87, Winthrop, passed away Monday July 11, 2011 at the Highland Nursing Home. Arrangements are entrusted with the Hammill Funeral Home, Winthrop. Virginia was born February 8, 1924 in Tupper Lake, NY. She grew up in Conifer, NY and graduated from Tupper Lake High School in 1942. She received her Registered Nurse degree from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Syracuse, NY. In 1947 she married Lincoln Chapman, together they operated a dairy farm in Winthrop until 1985. Lincoln predeceased her on July 18, 1995. Virginia loved her family, Buffalo Bills football, gardening and reading her Bible. She was a communicant of Victory Baptist Church, Winthrop. Virginia is survived by her son Craig (Valerie) Chapman, her daughter Mary Lynn (Glenn) Martin, both of Winthrop; her grandchildren Craig L. Chapman of Winthrop, Christopher and Pam Chapman, of North Carolina, Jim and Tammie LaClair, of Massena and Virginia LaClair, South Carolina, as well as seven great -grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Hammill Funeral Home Thursday 2-4pm. Funeral services will commence at 4pm at the funeral home. A private burial service will take place at the Burke Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Tri-Town Rescue Squad.
