Brasher Falls- Mr. Steven J. Simons, 68, passed away Friday August 26, 2011 at the Massena Memorial Hospital with the love and support of his family. Arrangements have been entrusted with Hammill Funeral Home, Winthrop. Steven was born on May 24, 1943 in Potsdam to Steven and Doris (Lonkey) Simons Sr. He was raised and educated locally, graduating from Massena High School in 1961. After graduation he relocated to Wappinger's Falls. Steven worked as a manager for IBM in the East Fishkill plant, retiring in 1992. Once retired, he came back to the North Country, where he resided in Brasher Falls. He is survived by his mother; Doris J. Simons of Norfolk, his children; Christine and James McPhilomy, and Lisa Ziegler all of Ft. Myers, FL, four grandchildren; J.P. McPhilomy of Norfolk, Niki, Heather, and Stephanie Ziegler of Ft. Myers FL, and one brother; Philip Simons of Norfolk. Steven was predeceased by his father, Steven Simons Sr. and his brother, Billie Simons. Steven took pleasure in gardening and taking care of his lawn. You could often find him out cutting the grass or tending to the plants. He enjoyed watching sports, particularly baseball. Over the years Steven also owned several delis' downstate. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11-1. Steven's funeral service will commence at 1pm upon conclusion of visitation, with the Rev. Lee Sweeney celebrating. Burial will follow in Winthrop Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Steven's honor to; Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley or to Stand Up to Cancer.
