Chris and family,
Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time. Chris always spoke so highly of her mother. Although I never had the chance to meet her, Chris told stories and talked about her everyday at work that made me feel as though we had met. Remember to smile from all the memories you have shared and can cherish and take with you in life.

I did not know Sharon for very long, but it wasn't long before I knew that this was a person with a huge heart, a loving spirit, and a beautiful person. I love that Sharon was always upbeat, had a positive attitude, and deeply cared for everyone she came into contact with. NYSARC will miss her always.

Sharon was like a mother hen to all of her sisters and brothers. This is something that she liked to do and well was forced to do because of many things that happened on our lives. We were separated when I was 9 years old. We were re-united about 4 years ago
when my wife found her up state New York. She was very close to my mother and lived close to her grave site. She was a strong lady and wanted the best for all of her family. She would do without to make sure her family had what they needed. I am glad that we had some time together in the past 4 years. I will miss my sister but know she will not be in pain any longer. Miss you Sis.

Sharon loved her children and was proud of all of them and her grandchildren. She would brag on them all the time. She loved Albert and enjoyed picking on him. Albert just know that you made my sister happy. Take as much comfort in that as you can. To her children be grateful you had as much time as you did with her and grandchildren as well. You have many good memories and just remember them.

I have so many fond memories of Sharon "tina's mom" as a kid. I remember her working so hard on the farm and how, as teenagers, we used to cause her quite a bit of grief! and then later on when I'd run into her when she worked for NYSARC. What a wonderful lady. She will surely be missed by many! My condolences to all of her loved ones...

Winthrop - Sharon P. Mitchell, 69, passed away Thursday evening at her home. Arrangements are entrusted with the Hammill Funeral Home, Winthrop.
Sharon was born in Kentucky on August 10, 1942, the daughter of the late Francis and Marion (Regan) Podvin. Early in life, Sharon moved from state to state with her family, where she attended many different schools. Sharon married Gary Roberts in 1962, together the couple had three children, and later they parted company. On August 24, 1991 she united into marriage with Albert Mitchell, together they made their home on a quiet road in the town of Stockholm, working hard and enjoying family.
Sharon volunteered for a year at the NYSARC Day Abilitation in Norwood until she was hired in 1986. Later she was transferred to the Potsdam Day Abilitation as an Assistant Practitioner where she completed her 25 years of faithful service. Sharon dearly loved the staff and especially the clients she cared for there. After retirement, she continued to visit when she could.
After many years of hard work on the farm and service to NYSARC, during retirement she found great pleasure in watching NASCAR, finishing word search book, gardening, facebooking her family and friends and sitting on the couch with her dogs. Most of all, though, she adored her family with all her heart and spending time with them was her greatest joy.
She leaves behind her husband Albert; two daughters Marion (Patrick) Bradish of Winthrop, Christina (Albert) Groebler of Norfolk; a son Charles (Teddra) Roberts of North Lawrence, her beloved grandchildren; Akaycia and Daniel Colbert, Brittany and Rahel Groebler, Eyan, Zaine, and Wyatte Roberts; two great grandchildren, Carson and Rowan Colbert, her brother, Robert and Donna Podvin of Magnolia, TX. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Sharon was predeceased by her sister Kay.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6-8 and Wednesday from 12-2. Funeral Services honoring the life of Sharon will be held Wednesday at 2pm upon conclusion of visitation, with the Rev. Don Curry presiding.
If one chose's to do so, memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the Potsdam Humane Society.
