Stockholm- JoAnne (LaLone) Carr, 70, passed away January 11, 2012 at the Fletcher-Allen Medical Center in VT with the love and support of her family by her side. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home, Winthrop. JoAnne was born in Wilma, NY on December 12, 1941, daughter of the late Michael and Dorothy (Prievo) LaLone. She attended Carthage High School till the 10th grade, after which she earned her GED, something JoAnne was very proud of. On October 22, 2005 JoAnne married Michael Carr at their home in Stockholm. JoAnne worked as a supervisor for NYSARC for 27 devoted years, retiring in July of 2010. JoAnne had a spirit and smile that could light up a room. She was the true matriarch of her family and took on that role with much tenderness and grace. Above all things, family was most important to JoAnne and times spent together could replace no other. Her grandchildren lit up her life, and she looked forward to each and every family gathering and holiday. However, JoAnne wasn't your typical 70yr old grandmother. She loved the outdoors, especially camping, fishing and hunting. She had a gun collection that would make any hunter jealous; including her high powered bow, and muzzle loader, to name a few. JoAnne also took on the role of tending to the campfire, something she had a knack for; right from cutting the wood to building the fire. She also enjoyed the thrill of 4-wheelers and wasn't afraid of the throttle. JoAnne and Michael took pleasure in their vegetable gardening, always sharing produce with family and friends. JoAnne also enjoyed her flower gardens. She had quite the collection of turtles; keeping her eye out at all times for boy angels, and liked butterflies. JoAnne was always up for a game of cards, and may have had a trick or two up her sleeve. She truly loved her clogging; she constantly looked forward to dancing and knew how to enjoy herself. With her happy and bubbly character and tremendous sense of humor; JoAnne was the life of any party or event. JoAnne had a one-of-a-kind personality, with a positive outlook on life. She was kind, loving, thoughtful, and generous, always willing to lend a helping hand. She was a very spiritual person, frequently finding God's signs and recited the Rosary daily. Her presence will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband; Michael, her children; Kathy Merrick of Mitchell, IN, Deborah Flores of Killeen, TX, Kelley and Tim Burkum of Potsdam, Richard and Susan Liebfred of Parishville, Nathan Carr and Samantha Black of Brasher Center, and Melissa Carr and Chad St. Louis of Massena, 17 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, her brother; Richard and Sharon LaLone of Pamelia, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. JoAnne was predeceased by her 5 brothers and 1 sister. Visitation will be held, Monday January 16, from 2-5pm at the Hammill Funeral Home, in Winthrop. JoAnne's Mass of Christian Burial will commence Tuesday morning at 10am at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls, with the Rev. Garry Giroux celebrating. For those wishing to do so, memorial contributions may be made in JoAnne's honor to the charity of one's choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
