Nicholville- Mr. Roy K. Michaud, 70, passed away unexpectedly, Monday April 21, 2014 at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center in Carlisle, PA, with his family at his bedside.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Roy was born on July 2, 1943 in Massena, to the late Kenneth R. Michaud and Beatrice (Labaur) Carr. He was raised and educated locally, graduating from St. Lawrence Central High School in 1964. On September 14, 1988 in Hopkinton he was married to Erma (Sweet) Votra by Justice Shorty Taylor. Together they made their home in Nicholville and shared in a devoted union filled with love, patience, and respect. Erma predeceased him on April 5, 2011.
For 28 dedicated years, Roy worked as a machinist at ALCOA, retiring in 2002.
Roy kept busy after retirement; he spent a lot of time tinkering in his garage, doing projects on his home, or more recently taking rides on his new motorcycle. He especially enjoyed just sitting on the front porch in his rocker, taking in the fresh air and cherishing the simple things in life.
He is survived by his children: Greg Michaud of Lake Placid, Lori Michaud and her husband Gerald Gibson of Hopkinton, Terry Joanette and his companion Pam Johnson of Colchester, VT., Brenda and George Campbell of Nicholville, Tom and Becky Votra of Nicholville, Monica Deragon of Albany, Tim and Debra Votra of Nicholville, and William Votra of Nicholville, 16 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and his brother and sister-in-law, John and Joanne Michaud of Norfolk.
He was predeceased by his step-father, Paul Carr and a grandson Jordan Campbell.
In keeping with Roy's wishes there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at Mound Hill Cemetery in Nicholville, Friday April 25 at 10 am with Pastor Lee Sweeney.
For those wishing to express an act of kindness, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Roy's honor may be made to the Nicholville Fire Department or to the Lawrenceville Ladies Auxiliary.
