Hopkinton- Mr. Harry A. Miller, 79, passed away peacefully, April 26, 2014 at the Highland Nursing Home in Massena.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Harry was born in Hopkinton on May 29, 1934 to the late Howard and Catherine Miller. He was raised and educated locally, attending Parishville-Hopkinton Central School.
Harry enlisted into the United States Air Force, serving his country for 3 1/2 years, being honorably discharged in November of 1957. In June of 1956 he was married to Ida Gerna.
For most of his life, Harry worked on his farm. More recently he was the Highway Superintendent for the Town of Hopkinton. He was a member of the Hopkinton-Ft. Jackson Volunteer Fire Dept, and at one time was the Chief of the department.
Harry worked hard all his life to provide for his family. He spent a lot of time out in the woods, cutting wood, and especially hunting; that was his passion. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, teaching them things and going for four-wheel rides.
He is survived by his wife, Ida, his children: Deborah Schoettlin of Potsdam, Harry and Terry Miller Jr. of Winchester, VA., Mickey Miller of Hopkinton, and Henry and Becky Miller of Hopkinton, 11 grandchildren, Jeremy, Moriah, Crystal, John, Matthew, Ryan, Henry Jr., Zachary, Leanne, Erin, and Adam, 5 great-grandchildren, Cadence, Skylar, Jarad, Emit, and Lilly, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by, his brothers and sisters, and his son, James Miller.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 at the Hammill Funeral Home. A graveside service with military honors will take place at Hopkinton-Ft. Jackson Cemetery at a later date.
