Winthrop - Harriett M. Brothers, 73, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014, in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Born in Potsdam on March 7, 1941, Harriett was the daughter of the late William Henry and Rose Elizabeth (Besio) Pharaoh. She graduated from Potsdam High School and on July 16, 1960 she married Glendon G. Brothers at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls with Msgr. Herbert H. Hannon celebrating. She devoted her life and love to him for 13 years, increasing their family with four children. Glendon passed away on April 13, 1974.
Harriett had great strength of character to go out of the home to support her family, working as a school bus driver for St. Lawrence Central School for 22 years. She loved to watch high school sports, supporting the community children as well as her own. Harriett played softball, in the position of pitcher, being well known for her batting technique. With her family and friends, she enjoyed going to camp, bird-watching, and also expressing her talent in painting. She was a member of the American Legion Post#514 Auxilary, a long time member of TOPS, and a communicant of St. Patrick Church.
She was a very generous woman with a forgiving nature, who opened her heart and her home to others in need. Those who knew her admired her, respected her and will never forget her kindness or her ability to put fun into everything she did. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend, who will always remain high in their hearts and treasured for all time.
Harriett leaves behind her four children; David G. and April LaPrade Brothers of Brasher Falls, Christine R. Brothers of Walton, Lisa M. and Todd Streetman of Forsyth, MO and Cory J. and Lori Brothers of Winthrop, four siblings; William Pharaoh of Russel, Marlene Thompson of Canton, Elaine Brainard and Barbara Dunn, all of Potsdam, 11 grandchildren; Taneka and Ryan Brown, Janice, Jenna, Janelle, Jordyn, Jaelei and David Brothers, Jessica Brothers, Kara Streetman, Glendon Streetman and Austin Brothers, two great grandchildren; Abigail J. Brown and Sophia I. Durant, and her adopted Agans family. She was predeceased by one brother, Walter.
Visitation will be Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Harriett's Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life will be Tuesday at 2 pm at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls with Fr. Downs celebrating. Her burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Those wishing to express an act of kindness, please consider donations to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, Inc., 6805 US Hwy 11, Potsdam, NY 13676.

My sincere best wishes to Harriett's family. She truly was a beautiful person. She had a great sense of humor and so many beautiful gifts. It was such a joy at Halloween time as Harriett had awesome ideas for costumes. One of my favorites was when she dressed up as Martha Washington.I have many special memories to cherish, and feel so blessed to have known her and worked with her. God's Blessings be with you as you journey through this time.

Dear family,
Harriett was a doll...funny, loving and so caring for everyone around her. She loved her children and grandchildren!! You were bless to have her in your lives. I remember the day her and Audi rode their scooters to Churubusco! Never knew what those two were up to! While it hurts so much to lose our loved ones - I'm sooo happy Audi and her are together again. Audi worried about leaving Harriett behind...God Bless you all!
