North Lawrence- Mrs. Jane A. Otto, 88, passed away peacefully Monday, October 13, 2014 at the Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Jane was born at home in Massena on January 6, 1926 to the late Floyd and Ida (Henry) San Jule. She was raised and educated locally; attending grade school in Canton and graduating from North Lawrence High School. She continued her education at St. Lawrence School of Nursing, earning her nursing degree. She was united into marriage on November 5, 1948 to Peter J. Otto at the United Methodist Church in Canton with Rev. Dobies performing the ceremony. Together building a relationship filled with faith, love, and hard work, Peter and Jane raised their family and farm in North Lawrence. Traveling was a passion they shared and although watching sports was not Jane's first choice, Pete needed her commentating and knowledge just the same. They shared in a blessed union of 54 years, until the time of Peter's passing on September 21, 2003. Her people person skills and caring nature complimented Jane in her daily life as well as in her career. For many years Jane worked as a Registered Nurse at Massena Memorial Hospital, Alice Hyde Medical Center and Canton-Potsdam Hospital. She eventually gave up nursing to be at home with her children and raise her family; a role she went above and beyond at. Throughout life, Jane was a provider of support, care, guidance, and love; not only for her children and grandchildren but for her community as well. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Fulton Chapter, a Girl Scout Leader in the Tri-Town area, and a member of the Winthrop Grange. In her leisure time, Jane played bingo; had a collection of owls and lighthouses, and a love for yellow roses. However, her greatest joy and love in life was her grandchildren. Jane is survived by her daughters and their husbands: Elaine and Stephen Petrasovic of Plattsburgh, Jane and Richard Jasinski of Fayetteville, and Janet Otto and Bruce Cassada of Waddington, her grandchildren: Elizabeth Petrasovic of Saratoga Springs, Peter Haveneir and Olivia Jasinski, both of Fayetteville, and Daniel Otto Cassada of Waddington. Visitation will be Friday from 10am-12pm at the funeral home. Jane's Funeral Service and Celebration of Life will commence at 12pm, upon conclusion of visitation with Rev. Lee Sweeney officiating. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in North Lawrence. Following the services, Jane's family respectfully invites friends and family to continue the celebration of her life with a reception at Janet and Bruce's home, located at 135 St. Lawrence Ave. in Waddington. For those wishing to express an act of kindness, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the nursing program at SUNY Canton or Utica College. Memories and condolences may be shared with Jane's family at www.hammillfh.com.
