St. Regis Falls- Mr. John F. Youmell, 78, passed away unexpectedly following a car accident Friday evening November 28, 2014 in the town of Dickinson. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
John was born in Brasher Falls on July 14, 1936 to the late George and Martha Laurant Youmell. He was raised locally and attended St. Josephs Academy in Brasher Falls.
John was the epitome of a hard worker. In his earlier, years he spent a lot of time in the woods cutting and transporting pulp logs, he worked on the building of the St. Lawrence Seaway and for a short time held a position with the NYS Department of Transportation. For the majority of his working life he drove truck for various local trucking companies and most recently he really enjoyed his time working at Catholic Charities in Malone.
Blessed with a kind heart and joking nature, John embodied a unique personality that was truly one-of-a-kind. His jostling habits paired with his choice of words would always produce a smile, laugh, or sometimes a snicker; but those who knew and loved him wouldn't have it any other way. His trucking stories; fabricated or not over the years, were always entertaining. Later in life, he enjoyed leisure time on the computer. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and James Empey of Bombay, nieces and nephew, Rebecca and James Smith of Crawford, TX., and Melinda Empey of Puerto Rico, 5 great nieces and nephews, cousins, Francis and Glenda Youmell of Brasher Falls, Paul and Helen Youmell of West Monroe, Terry Youmell of Rochester, Paula Youmell of Potsdam, Ginny Youmell of Lafayette, Michelle Limbrunner of Albany and Kevin Youmell of Boston, MA., his special family, Irene Daley of Constable, and Lucille McDermott of Massena. He was predeceased by his brother, George Youmell Jr.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 at the funeral home. John's Mass of Christian Burial and Funeral Service will be celebrated Thursday at 11am at St. Lawrence Church in North Lawrence with Rev. Andrew Amyot. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Brasher Falls.
For those wishing to express an act of kindness, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's honor to Catholic Charities in Malone.
Memories and condolences may be shared with his family at www.hammillfh.com.

To Johns family,
I am so sorry for your loss The last time I saw him he was here in Brasher to visit my grandmother Elizabeth Sharlow whom I believe John knew through Jean Empy. I am the youngest of her 3 grandaughters. He came to visit before Grandma went into the nursing home and she actually for a short minute knew who he was.I too remember being in the woods with John and grandpa and yes he did always have something in his lunchbox for the kids.I am sorry to have missed the service. I sure hope he is up there playing cards with granpa grandma and all of his friends. John was a great guy. My sincerest sympathies.

Rest in Peace, "uncle John" you were always able to get anyone to smile and laugh no matter how they were feeling prior to talking to you. The memories are priceless I don't think that there is anyone who talked to you that can say they didn't hear a good story about your days of driving truck. (dumping the load to get a ticket for littering instead of overload) Way to many stories to print here but if someone wrote a book it would definitely be a best seller because you were certainly a great person , if you could get under someones skin that made your day, then two minutes later they were laughing right along with you.
