Additional Obit Info

North Lawrence- Mrs. Mabel H. (Jenkins) Richards, 74, passed away Thursday December 4, 2014 at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls. Mabel was born in Saranac Lake on September 17, 1940 to the late Lester Jenkins and Joyce (Trushaw) Jenkins Fleury. She was raised and educated locally, attending the Moira School. On April 12, 1958 she was married to Douglas Richards at St. Mary's Church in Brushton. They raised their family and farm together, blessed with 56 years of marriage. Mabel assisted on the family dairy farm for over 40 years and a devoted homemaker who took on daily tasks with diversity and grace. Mabel was "mother to some, loved by others. She passed as she was loved by everyone." -LAW Mabel had the ability to keep busy with her knitting, canning and baking; but most of all her crafts. She was expertly talented to do any kind of craft there was. Making maple syrup however was a family affair, each playing a part in the process, and Mabel was always the "jugger". In earlier years, she enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. She had a knack for gardening and loved flowers, especially fond of yellow roses. Later in life, she spent leisure time on the computer. She is survived by her husband, Douglas, 7 children: Kathy and Wayne Hubbard of Bangor, Karen and Steven Salls Jr. of North Lawrence, Pam Johnson and her companion Terry Joanette of Burlington, VT., Steven and Dana Richards of Harker Heights, TX., Bruce Richards and his companion Tina Paro of Tupper Lake, and Lisa and Tim Wheeler of St. Regis Falls, 2 sisters: Marie Rutherford of Malone, and Teresa Wilson of Bloomingdale, 2 brothers, Donald and Sally Jenkins of Constable, and Bob and Shirley Foley of Morrisonville, 18 grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. The love and memory of her son Victor Richards who passed away on August 1, 2014, always remained in her heart. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 at the funeral home. Mabel's Funeral Service and Celebration of Life will be Wednesday at 10am at the funeral home with Rev. Donald Work officiating. Burial will follow at Sand Hill Cemetery in Dickinson. For those wishing to express an act of kindness, memorial contributions in Mabel's honor may be made to Tri-Town Rescue Squad.
