Brasher Falls- Mrs. Geraldine "Jud" E. Dullea, 91, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena with her family by her side. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Jud was born in Brasher on April 6, 1923 to the late Cornelius Leary and Gladys May (Capell) Leary. She graduated from St. Josephs Academy in 1941 and continued her studies at Potsdam State (Potsdam Normal School) earning her Bachelor's degree in education and graduating in 1946.
On June 29, 1946 Jud was married to Charles L. Dullea at St. Patrick Church with Fr. John Cotter celebrating. They shared a blessed union together of 55 years, complete with faith, family, love and laughter. Charlie passed away on October 17, 2001.
For 30 years Jud taught kindergarten at St. Lawrence Central School in Brasher Falls, enriching the lives of many children before she retired in 1979.
Jud was a devout member of St. Patrick Church. She fully embraced her spiritual connection and served her parish as a Eucharistic Minister. She showcased her affection for her small town by becoming the Town Historian from 1989-1991, where she wrote many articles for the Tri Town Tribune. In her free time she enjoyed playing piano and singing, attending her bridge club, and gardening.
She was blessed with a beautiful spirit and life that was truly evident to those who knew and loved her. Jud loved being with her family, whether she was at their camp at Lake Ozonia or attending her grandchildren's sporting events.
She is survived by her children Ann and Alan French, Ellen and Vin Kavanagh, Patty Dullea, and Mark and Becky Dullea, all of Brasher Falls. She is also survived by her sister Constance McLaughlin of Brasher Falls, her grandchildren; Michael and Karra French of Frederick, MD, Amy and Randy Baldwin of Brasher Falls, Angie and Tim Cox of Raleigh, NC, Dennis Dullea, and Brady Dullea of Potsdam, Charlie Dullea of Plattsburgh, her great grandchildren; Keegan Smith of Brasher Falls, Charlie Cox, and Sully Cox of Raleigh, NC and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Always close to her heart was the memory of those who predeceased her; her husband Charlie, a son, Michael who passed away in 1970, her sister Frances Murray and her brother Gerald Leary.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7 at the funeral home. Geraldine's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:00am at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls with Rev. Garry Giroux officiating. Burial will take place at St. Patrick Cemetery in the spring.

Ann, Pat, Mark,
I just wanted to say how incredibly blessed I was to have had your Mom as my first teacher. I loved her so much. She made a scared little girl feel safe and secure. She had a way as well of making you feel special. There are teachers who are teachers who are the real deal and those who are there and wonder how they got to be one. She was the real deal. A one of a kind special lady who I wil always hold dear in my heart. Throughout my school years there are a few very special teachers that were important in shaping how I became who I am today. She was one of the rare few. Any good qualities I have were in part her loving kind way of touching my life in a positive way. May Gid bless you all and hold you close during this time of such grief. Love to you all..... Robin

I was one of the many children who had Mrs. Dullea as my first teacher. It was 1955 and we were in half-day sessions at the Quonset Hut in Winthrop. I remember trying to be brave but was really scared of leaving home, getting on the bus, and going to school all alone. Mrs. Dullea greeted each of us as we got off the bus. She had such a pretty smile and made you feel happy. If she thought you needed it, she even gave you a hug. I left that day looking forward to coming back to school and fondly have thought of Mrs. Dullea many times since. She remains my favorite teacher. We believe that we will meet Saint Peter at the Pearly Gates and now I am certain that just behind him is Mrs. Dullea greeting everyone with her infectious smile, giving a hug if needed, making the weary travelers feel safe, comfortable, and welcoming them home.
She was a beautiful person who left a legacy of love and kindness to the people she touched.

Dullea Family,
I am in tears :-(
I just heard about Mrs. Dullea passing. She was my kindergarten teacher and I always adored her. I just saw and hugged her at Thanksgiving at my uncle's funeral. She was always quick with a hug whenever I made the trip back home to Brasher and would see her out and about town.
She has been in my thoughts the past few days, for whatever reason, I cannot say, but she has been and I have been remembering her presence in my life.
Even though I am not there physically, I am most certainly there in spirit. Mrs. Dullea was a great lady and she will be greatly missed.
RIP.

Dear Dullea Family,
I am sorry to hear of your loss of such a sweet mother and grandmother. Before I even started school in Brasher Falls, Jud came to our home and taught my older brother, Fred. He had muscular dystrophy and had reached the point where he could no longer attend school. I remember her coming over, but little beyond that. My Mom always appreciated Jud's attention to Fred's education and always held Jud in high esteem. There were lots of kind and generous people in our home town, but Jud stands out in my memory. I wish that I could be there to share stories and reminisce. But, please know that all of you are in Julie's and my prayer. Rick Cudlipp was right; growing up in Brasher Falls, in our time, and in our neighborhood was wonderful! We are so blessed!
