Massena - Joseph J. DeFilippo, 61, passed away Monday, April 20, 2015, at home under the loving care of his family. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Joseph was born on July 17, 1953 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, son of the late Dominic and Mary (Nuzzo) DeFilippo. He attended Graham Junior College in Boston. He was known in Boston as The Charles Street Troubadour in the 70's. Joe's first marriage to Arlene Weinstein, produced two girls, and ended in divorce. Joe and Arlene maintained a lifelong friendship. A second marriage to Janice Schnetzler, brought a son and a daughter, but also ended in divorce. He met Nancy Rood, a coworker at a limo company in NH. Joe moved to NNY in 1989 to be with Nancy. They got married in Massena at the Andrews Street Park in the gazebo on December 7, 2002. They shared a loving, devoted union, built on respect for each other. Joe's life revolved around music; if he wasn't playing or songwriting, he was helping other musicians get their music heard. He founded WildCat Recording USA in 1993, getting many of his friend's music released. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; four children, Rachel Weinstein of Far Rockaway, Ruthanna Weinstein-Robinson of Portsmouth, NH, Michael DeFilippo and Marina DeFilippo, both of Epping, NH; five grandchildren; and many friends. Following his wishes, there will be no calling hours but a Gathering to Celebrate his Life will be held at a later date and will be announced.
