Obituary of Edwin R. Marsh

Winthrop – Edwin R. Marsh, 73, passed away Wednesday evening, June 17, 2015, at Canton-Potsdam Hospital with his family by his side. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Ed was born on December 18, 1941 in the Town of Stockholm, son of the late Morgan and Bertha (Davis) Marsh, Sr. He graduated from St. Lawrence Central School and on August 25, 1962, married Patricia E. Brown at Brasher Falls United Methodist Church with Rev. A. A. Cameron officiating. They shared 53 years of a devoted union, with the blessing of a beautiful family. He has worked many jobs throughout the years: operated a dairy farm and worked other jobs while farming, at ALCOA, carpenter for Fisher Rexford Construction and drove bus for Potsdam Central School. He left farming and was a sub-contractor for Ridge Homes. He then was employed as an operator for the Town of Stockholm Highway Department for 30 years, retiring in 2004. He went back to school bus driving for Parishville-Hopkinton then St. Lawrence Central. Ed’s love of his Stockholm community put him in positions to help the public. He served as Code Enforcement Officer, Town Councilman and Chairman of the Republican Committee. He was honored to be chosen as a Parade Marshall for the Town of Stockholm in the Tri Town Summer Festival. He upheld his Christian beliefs as a member of the Buckton United Methodist Church, a member of the Christian Community Men’s Club, Kairos Prison Ministry and Emmaus/Closer-Walk Ministry. He lived his faith as husband, father and grandfather, and his care in the wellbeing of others. He took great pride in his children and taught them to put forth their best efforts and look for the best in people. He was sensitive to the needs of others and was a mentor to many. He is survived by the love of his life, Patricia, their children, Gregory and Jenny Marsh of Winthrop and Stacey and David Neale of Bloomingdale, two grandchildren, Peter and Daniel Neale, his siblings, Shirley and Earl Parker of Sandfordville, Morgan and Lorraine Marsh, Jr. and Rhoda Hall, both of Winthrop. Visitation will be Saturday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Ed’s Funeral Service will be held Sunday at 2pm at Brasher Falls United Methodist Church. Committal services and interment will be at Winthrop Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to express an act of kindness in Ed’s honor, please consider donations to the Brasher Falls United Methodist Church or Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, Inc.
