North Lawrence - Alice S. Stevenson, 75, passed away Tuesday evening, June 30, 2015 at St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena. Arrangements are entrusted with the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Alice was born on April 16, 1940 in New York City, daughter of the late Benjamin R. and Gladys M. (Bellows) Smith. She went to George Washington High School before moving to the North Country and graduating from St. Lawrence Central School. On April 6, 1973, she married Leo E. Stevenson in North Lawrence by Justice Peter Otto. Mr. Stevenson passed away on October 1, 2003.
Alice worked throughout her life: starting at Con Edison and Bankers Trust in NYC and locally at Sears, TJ Max and JC Penney. She was devoted to her Methodist faith as a member of the Nicholville United Methodist Church. Alice had a love for history as the Town Historian for the Town of Lawrence and was also a member of both the Lawrence and Stockholm Historical Societies. Alice was at her best when she was doing something to help others and was blessed with a loving relationship with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by three children: Pamela J. Navarro of Nicholville, SueAnn and Jason Benson of Murfreesboro, TN and Leo B. and Heidi Stevenson of Nicholville, her five grandchildren and many friends.
There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be at the Nicholville United Methodist Church on July 25th at 11 am.
Memorials in her name can be made to Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

I worked with Alice at JCP. Alice was a very smart lady, the home fashions department was hers. There was not one person in that store who knew more about " her" department. She worked hard long hours never complaining. The best times chatting with her and getting her to laugh. I will miss her.
