Winthrop – Dorothy F. "Dot" Catlin, 85, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Massena Memorial Hospital with her family at her side. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Dot was born on January 28, 1930 in Mumford, daughter of the late Elmer Wilson and Marie (McCombs) Stirling. She graduated from York Central School in 1947 and went to work at a department store in LeRoy, NY. On October 9, 1948, she married Paul R. Catlin at the United Presbyterian Church in York with Rev. Kenneth Sheppard officiating. With her cherished companion, they shared a 54 year marriage with a relationship filled with love and mutual respect. Paul passed away on February 1, 2003. Dot devoted herself to her family with her lifetime commitment of wife and mother. She was calm and quiet by nature with a determined attitude. She knew how she wanted her home decorated; a place where loved ones could gather, always welcomed with a warm heart. She supported her loved ones with unconditional love, patience and devotion, throughout their lives. Dot enjoyed her friendships and the time spent with the ladies of the Knit Wits. She practiced her faith at the Congregational Church in Winthrop, where she inspired the congregation with religious melodies. She is survived by her daughter, Frances M. (Fran) Catlin of Schenectady, her neighbors, Jerry and Noni Durant, (who she loved as her own), one sister, Lillian M. Wagner of Rochester, many nieces, nephews and friends. She always held the love of "the Boys" in her heart; her husband, Paul and her son, Larry P. who died on January 15, 2008. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Gerald E. and Albert L. Stirling and one sister, Barbara A. Purcel. Visitation will be held Friday from 1 to 3 pm at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, with Dot's Funeral Service and Celebration of Life at 3. Burial will follow in Winthrop Cemetery. Those wishing to express an act of kindness in Dot's memory, please consider donations to Brasher Winthrop Volunteer Fire Department, P. O.
