Brasher Falls – Douglas L. “Paggy” Wilson, 71, passed away peacefully, Friday, January 15, 2016, at his home surrounded by the love and support of his family. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Doug was born on February 26, 1944 in Watertown, son of the late Shirley Wilson-Macy, and was adopted and raised by his grandparents, Guy and Elizabeth Wilson. He graduated from St. Lawrence Central High School in 1961. On September 2, 1967, he married Barbara Hall at St. Patrick's Church in Brasher Falls with Rev. Herbert Hannan celebrating. They maintained a love for each other that is everlasting.
He was never one to be idle. Between work, the kids’ sports and his hobbies, he was always busy. He found several places of employment throughout the years: SLC Highway Department, Nekoosa – Edwards Paper Company, Corning Glass Works, self-employed Farmer, self-employed Truck Driver, and a Lineman for the NY Power Authority, the position from which he retired.
He enjoyed many hobbies over the years including motorcycling, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, cars, and crop farming. His latest passion was black powder shooting through which he forged many strong friendships with shooters from across the country. He competed in local, regional and international competitions around the United States as well as events in Canada, Spain and South Africa. He was a proud member of the United States International Muzzle Loading Team.
Doug loved his family. He took pride in his work and did his best to instill his values into his children by example. Having family and friends together to celebrate special occasions, to visit or to reflect at happy hour, brought him joy. He loved his grandchildren and they loved him. Their special connections will remain within their memories. During Doug’s diagnosis and treatments, he found strength and peace in the love of his family.
Surviving Doug are his wife, Barb; three children and their spouses, Darren and Danielle Wilson of Hannawa Falls, Denise and William Arquiett of Brasher Falls, and Sara and Douglas Soika of Clinton; siblings, Dennis and Patricia Macy of The Villages, FL, David and Georgia Macy of Ft. Jackson, and Sandra and Roger Streeter of Syracuse; a sister-in-law, Patricia Hall of Canton; his grandchildren, Hunter and Kennedy Wilson, Will Arquiett, and Abigail and Aiden Soika; his step-grandchildren, Trevor and Nicole Arquiett, as well as cousins, nieces, nephews, and his beloved dog, Heidi.
Visitation will be Sunday 4 to 7 pm and Monday from 11am to 1pm. A luncheon to celebrate his life will follow visiting hours Monday at 2pm at the Riverview Restaurant in Brasher Falls. Burial will be in the spring at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
Flowers are gratefully declined, but donations to Hospice will be appreciated. Memories and condolences can be shared at www.hammillfh.com.

I met Doug in 1976 working on transmission line clearing for a new Power Authority transmission line from St. Lawrence to Beekmantown. A few years later we ended up both working at St. Lawrence and retiring from there. Doug was on of the truly good ones, a great trouble shooter, and just an all around good guy. While I couldn't get the service, he was in my thoughts. I appreciated the time we spent, and find myself much better for it.

May Douglas's family and friends be comforted by God's promise to "swallow up death forever, and wipe away every tear from all faces." (Isaiah 25:8) Remembering too the promise of the resurrection hope for both the Unrighteous and Righteous. (Acts 24:15)

I had the pleasure of caring for Darren and Denice several days a week, while Barb worked as a supervising nurse at St. Regis Nursing Home, and Doug was farming. My primary job was to look after the children, feed them dinner, put them to bed, and to set out dinner for Doug when he came in after farm chores. I'd then leave. But I can remember on so many occasions his terrific sense of humor, and his ability to even laugh at himself. One such occasion happened when I had brought my camera with me to take pictures of the kids (Sara hadn't been born yet), but I took a picture of Doug at the table with his plate of food in front of him. He had pointed his finger at me, saying, "don't you dare take that picture!" I did anyway, and when I got the pictures back, discovered that Doug's finger was perfectly aligned with his nose, making it look like he had a huge ball at the end of his nose. It was hysterical, and I had to show him. His response, "I told you not to take that picture!" That made me laugh all the more. My heart goes out to his family, and I know he will be missed. I am so sorry for their loss.

Barb and family: There is nothing we can say to ease your grief and sadness but know that many, many prayers from many, many friends have been with you all through Doug's illness. We still have hilariously funny, surprising and genuinely lovable memories of times spent with the Wilsons at the Friots back porch after the canoe races and weddings and "quiet weekends". How entwined our families became, who knew! Our love, sympathy and prayers go out for your comfort as we remember Doug.

On behalf of all the South African black powder shooters, please accept our most sincere condolences!
It was a privilege to shoot alongside Doug in Cape Town in 2013 and again at Camp Butner in 2015. It was SO special to see how his children took care of all his needs at the Championships last year and even more special to see how much he enjoyed the shoot.
You will be in our prayers and thoughts!
