Obituary of Cassie L Burnett

North Lawrence- Ms. Cassie L. Burnett, 26, passed away unexpectedly on Monday January 18, 2016. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Cassie was born in Gouverneur on January 14, 1990 to James 'Jimmy' Douglas and Denise (Burnett) Bonville. She attended high school at St. Lawrence Central, Gouverneur Central School and in Florida, returning home to the North Country and graduating from St. Lawrence Central in 2008. Cassie proudly served her country in the US Air Force for a short time before her honorable discharge in 2010.
On January 21, 2011 she was blessed with the birth of her beautiful daughter, Sahara Jade Burnett.
Cassie was always a hard worker. After graduation she worked at Taco Bell and after the military she worked for United Helpers Nursing Home in Canton, then at the Akwesasne Mohawk casino as a dealer. Currently she was working as a mail carrier in Potsdam for the US Postal Service.
Those who knew and loved Cassie will always remember her passion for horses. All her life she trained horses for various people and farms in the area. She recently became a member of the Quarter Horse Association with her horse Blondie, something she was very proud of. Mexican food was her favorite and she always looked forward to dinner out at Hotel Grande. She also enjoyed crocheting.
Whether it was a special occasion, a holiday gathering, or just hanging out Cassie was happiest when surrounded by friends and family.
She is survived by her daughter Sahara Jade, her mother Denise Bonville of CO and her companion Buzz (Michael) Guyette, her father and step-mother, Jimmy and Tracy Douglas of Richville, grandparents: Dennis Burnett of Winthrop and Sandra Greenwood of Ft. Jackson, and Walton and Florence Douglas of Gouverneur, her siblings: Natalie Burnett and her companion Collin Benton of Norfolk, and Dakota and Ryan Keese of Chase Mills, Colton Burnett of Massena, Jesse Douglas, Harley Douglas, Chelsea Miller and Dawson Miller.
Survivors also include her aunts and uncles: Becky and Tim Ramsdell of Winthrop, Kimberly Kerberg of CO, Amy and Mike Bolia of Winthrop, Paula Douglas of Fowler, and Doug and Melinda Douglas of Winthrop, great- aunts and uncles, several nieces, nephews, and many cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by her close friend Kaitlyn M. Dissottle-Camidge.
Visitation will be Friday from 5-7pm and Saturday from 10am-12pm with her funeral service to follow visitation on Saturday at the Funeral Home.
Flowers are gratefully declined, please consider memorial contributions be made to a trust fund for Cassie's daughter, Sahara.
