St. Regis Falls- Mr. Raymond A. Susice, 85, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday February 11, 2016 at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls. Ray was born on March 31, 1930 in Santa Clara to the late Julius and Virginia (Barcomb) Susice. He was raised and educated locally graduating from St. Regis Falls High School. For a short time he participated in the building of the Niagara Falls Dam and after which he started work as a Mill Wright at ALCOA. He then attended Trade School for mechanics earning his one year certificate. Ray retired after 40 dedicated years of service. On September 13, 1958 Ray was married to Anita E. Conley at St. Ann's Church in St. Regis Falls. They shared a blessed loving union of 56 years built upon faith and family. Anita passed away on January 31, 2015. It is clearly evident that Ray had a love and dedication for his community and the people that lived in it. He served the Town of Waverly in many capacities, working his way up the political ladder; as town assessor, councilmen, and supervisor, and lastly as the Franklin County Legislature. He was a current member of the Maple Leaf Housing Council and the Solid Waste Management board, where he organized for grants and was very influential to the planning and development of the building renovations in St. Regis Falls. He was also on the Senior Citizens Board of Directors, a member of: St Ann's Church, Benz Pond Club, SRF Sportsman's Club, Red Tavern Club and an honorary member of the Everton Club, Knights of Columbus and SRF Fire Department. It came as no secret that Ray liked to keep busy; if he was working he was happy, and he enjoyed playing cards with his close friends. Ray had a deep love for nature and the outdoors; hunting, fishing, trapping, 4-wheeling, but especially times spent at camp with his family and friends. He certainly filled his 85 years with adventures and memories to last a lifetime, he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his children: Richard Scott Susice and his companion Norma Vincent of St. Regis Falls, Sonya M. and Gar Smith of Nicholville, and Michael R. Susice of St. Regis Falls, 6 grandchildren: Anthony Susice, Ryan Susice, Jordan Smith, Kevin Smith, Jason Vincent, Joseph Vincent and a great-grandson, Mason Vincent, and his sister, Joyce Cox of Dickinson. Ray was predeceased by his siblings: Eugene, Joseph, Matilda, Richard, and Norman Susice, Blanch Pelow, Ethel, Jennie, and Catherine Susice, Francis Charon, and Edward "Buster" Cramer. Visitation will be Wednesday (2/17) from 2-4 & 6-8 at the funeral home. Ray's funeral service and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11:00am at St. Ann's Church in St. Regis Falls. Burial will take place in the spring. Following mass, the Susice Family invites family and friends to join them at a luncheon at the SRF Fire Department. For those wishing to express an act of kindness, memorial contributions may be made in Ray's honor to: St. Ann's Church, the Maple Leaf Housing Association, or the SRF Fire Department.
