Brasher Falls- Mr. Gerald Anthony Henry, 88, "Gerry" peacefully crossed over on Tuesday March 1, 2016 at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Karen Henry. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Gerald was born in Brasher on May 11, 1927 to the late Harry and Bell (Lalonde) Henry. He was raised and educated locally, attending St. Josephs Academy in Brasher Falls. He proudly served his country in the US NAVY sharing in some of the 'best times of his life'. A marriage to Lois (Ferris) Seamans ended in divorce, and in 1972 he was married to Mary Mitchell. Beginning work at an early age, Gerry adapted and embraced his skill throughout his life. In the 1950's he assisted in the building of the St. Lawrence Seaway and after which took a position as foreman working on the Niagara Falls Dam. Eventually, he settled at Reynolds Metals, working in the ANODE for 30 dedicated years, the position from which he retired. As a member of St. Patrick Parish he was a member of the Parish Council serving as a trustee and was very instrumental in the Bishop Fund. Gerry was a constant pillar for his family and his community as he was also a member of the American Legion and the Brasher-Winthrop Volunteer Fire Department. Those who knew him best will always remember how he loved to work and his passion for building and fixing most anything. Gerry is survived by his children: Kenneth and Carol Henry of Reno, NV., Michael and Karen Henry of Brasher Falls, Sheila Irwin and her fiancé Mike Dishaw of Massena, and John Henry and his companion Tamara Deno of Brasher Falls, a sister-in-law Joyce (Bernard) Henry of Brasher Falls, his grandchildren: Jennie Henry, Abbey Henry, Joshua Henry and his fiancé Jasmine, Nicole 'Nikki' Henry , and April Henry, Tonya and Jarrad Fox, Travis and Casey Henry, Shawn and Stephanie Henry, Autumn Irwin and her fiancé Jonathan Hirschey, Kersten Baker, and Kayla Irwin, great-grandchildren: Gio, Teryn, Tya, Madison, Tristan, Luke, Kristin, Ethan, Jade, Madison, Jarika, Hannah, and a great-great granddaughter, Brynnley. Always close to Gerry's heart is the memory of those who predeceased him: his son Jerry W. Henry, grandson Adam Henry, and brothers, Kenneth, James, and Bernard. Gerald's Memorial Service will be celebrated Wednesday March 10th at 10:00am at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls. Following the service, family and friends are respectfully invited to join in a Celebration of Life Reception at the Knights of Columbus in Brasher Falls. Burial will take place at St. Patrick Cemetery in the spring. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorial contributions in Jerry's honor may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley Inc. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.hammillfh.com.
