Massena- Mrs. Carol J. Fountaine, 70, has gone home to be with her Jesus on the morning of Friday May 27, 2016, surrounded by the love and care of her family and hospice. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Carol was born on June 16, 1945 in Potsdam to the late Mike and Laura (Losey) Donie. She was raised and educated locally, graduating from St. Lawrence High School in Brasher Falls. Shortly after graduation, on July 6, 1963 she married her high school sweetheart, Lyle Fountaine at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls. They shared a blessed union built upon faith, family and love. Carol was a homemaker and a true matriarch who always provided and cared for those around her, especially when it came to her family. She loved spending time in the kitchen cooking and baking. At Christmas time she would make cookies, pies, and fudge for her entire family and all of her fellow church members, and was known for her special blueberry pie. She took great pleasure in mowing her lawn, mostly on her John Deer mower who she called 'Johnny'. She also enjoyed country and gospel music. Faith was a constant in Carol's life as she practiced daily. As a member of the Massena Baptist Church, she was often involved in the planning and preparing for events and activities and would always be there to provide a dish or meal when needed. She is survived by her husband, Lyle, and their children: Michael Fountaine of Swanton, VT., Paula Fountaine of Massena, Katherine Fountaine, of Massena, and Albert Champaine of Swanton VT., her grandchildren: Timmothy Keefe, Jacob Grimet, Katherine Karol, Grimet, Kelly Champaine, and Leo Champaine, her siblings Raymond Donie of Winthrop, Laura Mae Barse of Massena, and Larry Donie of Winthrop and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Always close to her heart are the memories of those who predeceased her; her son, Robert Fountaine, daughter Anita Fountaine, brother Carol Amo, and sister Shirley Vodron. Calling hours will be Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Carol's Celebration of Life will be Tuesday at 2:00pm at the funeral home with Pastor Clifford Boice. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Buckton. Flowers are gratefully declined. For those wishing to express an act of kindness, memorial contributions may be made to: St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Massena SPCA. Memories and condolences may be shared with her family at www.hammillfh.com.
