Additional Obit Info

St. Regis Falls - Charles A. "Sonny Boy" Bishop, 81, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at UVMC in Burlington, VT. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls. Charles was born on August 20, 1934 in Santa Clara, son of the late Charles E. and Ida M. (Susice) Bishop. He received his education at Santa Clara Rural School and graduated from St. Regis Falls High School. He married Arlene C. Phillips on November 27, 1954 at St. Ann's Church in St. Regis Falls. They shared 61 years in a relationship filled with love and respect. Throughout the years, he worked on the St. Lawrence Seaway, ALCOA and then at General Motors for 30 years, retiring from the Lost Foam Department. On the side, he would do construction. He built his own home, and helped his children with theirs. The greatest treasures of Sonny's life are his family. Being with his kids and grandkids meant the world to him. He always had the time for cards and dominos with them. With the ever present Red Man in his pocket, he could be seen working in his garden, hunting, fishing, frogging, playing horseshoes, watching a Yankees game, sitting by his wood stove reading or scratching lottery tickets. As a GM retiree, he was true to the company buying only General Motors trucks. In recent years, he found some enjoyment in games of chance. Charles was dedicated to his catholic faith which sustained him throughout his life. He was a parishioner of St. Peter's and St. Ann's Churches. Surviving Sonny is his wife Arlene; their children, Debbie and David Murray of Morristown, Tammy and Billy Haynes of Dickinson Center, Sue and Peter Arcadi of St. Regis Falls, Charles "Chuck" and Valerie Bishop of St. Regis Falls and John Bishop and his companion, Joyce Meacham of Dickinson Center; two sisters, Violet Haynes of RI and Linda Holmes of Malone; one brother, William Bishop of Athens, AL; 17 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five sisters, Elsie Bailey, Yvonne Nowicki, Delores Dufore, Rose O'Neil and Gloria Moser. There will be no public visitation. Charles' Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 11 am at St. Ann's Church in St. Regis Falls with Fr. Fish celebrating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with a Remembrance Luncheon at the church after the burial. Flowers are gratefully declined, but wishing to do so please consider donations to St. Ann's Church or St. Regis Falls Rescue Squad. Memories and condolences can be shared with his family at www.hammillfh.com.
