Obituary of Alfred George Gordon Mossey

Alfred left us, Friday, October 28, 2016, surrounded by family and friends at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, NY. He was the eldest son of Gordon and Edith (Pepin) Mossey of Rouses Point, NY. Alfred leaves behind his four children and seven grandchildren; Derek, daughter Kyra and son Hunter, Shona Mossey Lothrop, her husband Chris and daughter Sophia, Vance, his wife Dorothy, daughter Andrea and son Jacob, Jason and his daughters Jenna and Julia.
Alfred also leaves behind three siblings and nine nieces and nephews: a brother Gene and his children Mark, Laurie, and Jeff, sister Ila Daley, her husband Mike and their children Kelly, Amy, Michael and Megan, sister Ilene Wright and her two children Sarah and Ryan. Alfred also leaves behind his long time companion Catherine Besaw. He is predeceased by both of his parents and his sister-in-law Carol.
Alfred served as a Sergeant in the US Army from 1953-1956. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal. After his military service he attended Paul Smith’s College, in Paul Smith’s, NY. He worked for Webster Martin, Inc., in South Burlington, VT, as a civil engineer for over 30 years before retiring.
Alfred will be remembered fondly as a real Adirondack Mountain Man. His love and knowledge of hunting, fishing, trapping and wilderness was passed on to all that came to know him.
Services have been entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home, St. Regis Falls, NY. There will be a graveside service Saturday, November 19, 2016, 2pm at the Hoose Cemetery, Studley Hill Road and Hoose Road, Duane, NY. There will be a celebration of life immediately following the service at The Red Tavern, 1857 County Route 14 (Red Tavern Road), Santa Clara, NY.
