Obituary of Dew M. Rushlow

Massena- Dew M. Rushlow, 57, peacefully passed away on January 15, 2017 at her home, surrounded by those she loved most. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Dew (Lorene) was born in Potsdam on October 27, 1959 to the late Allen F. and Doreen Mae (LaMora) Derushia. She was raised and educated locally, attending St. Lawrence Central High School and furthering her education at Mater Dei College for nursing.
On June 30, 2001, she married Thomas Rushlow Sr. in Massena. They shared a relationship and a family together created with their open hearts and open home.
Over the years, Dew held positions at several retail businesses in the St. Lawrence County area. However, she spent the majority of her time caring for others as a Home Health Aide for Massena Housing Authority.
Those who knew and loved Dew would say that her family was her passion. She took great pride in being a mother, grandmother, and best friend to many. Whether it was for the holidays, a cookout, a special occasion or just because, Dew was most content when all her family was together.
In her leisure time she enjoyed playing bingo, trips to the casino and was never afraid of having a good time.
She is survived by her husband, Tom Rushlow Sr. of Massena, her children: Jessica Simonds and her companion Joe Delisle of Winthrop, Allen and Jennifer Deshane of TN., Amanda and Harold Stark of Winthrop, Joshua Shene and his companion Amy Ferguson, of Syracuse, Alicia and Mark Simonds of Massena, Nicole Baublitz and her companion Eric Wood-Delgado of Massena, Jeremy Deshane and his companion Kelsey Curran of Massena, Melissa and Eric Shuck of Massena, Courtney Rushlow of VA., Thomas Rushlow Jr. and his companion Bryaunna Murray of Massena, Amber, Tayah, Mallory, and Tristan Rushlow, all at home, and step-son Robert Rushlow of Massena, 26 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
Survivors also include her brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Janet Derushia of Winthrop, sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Robert Whitehead of TN, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dew was predeceased by a brother, David Derushia and her son-in-law Daniel P. Simonds.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no calling hours.
Family and friends are invited to join in a celebration honoring Dew’s life, Sunday January 22 at 12:00 noon at the American Legion; located at 675 State Highway 11c Winthrop, NY 13697.
