Obituary of Doris M. Allen

Russell- Ms. Doris M. Allen, 88, more recently of Brasher Falls, passed away Saturday February 11, 2017 at the Highland Nursing Home in Massena. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Doris was born in Russell on July 9, 1928 to the late Stanley Allen and Vina Walker Allen. She was raised and educated locally, graduating from the former, Knox Memorial High School. In her earlier years, Doris tended bar for various establishments in Chicago, Illinois. She also worked many years at Fanny Farmer Candy Co. in Rochester, GE in Utica and at Smith Corona in Groton, NY. After that she worked in home health care, sharing with others her friendly outgoing spirit, along with her compassion and care. Doris loved people and her dogs; always greeting everyone with a smile and caring disposition. She had a true green thumb and enjoyed gardening. Favorite past times were spent with her family and she had a deep bond with her siblings. She is survived by her nieces, nephews, and cousins. Doris was predeceased by her parents and brothers and sisters: May, Mary & Violet (in infancy), Viola Oshea, Leon "Bob" Allen, Alva "John" Allen, Alice VanBrocklin, and Goldie Manion. There will be no services at this time. A graveside service for Doris will be held at South Russell Cemetery in the spring. Memories and condolences may be shared with her family at www.hammillfh.com.
