Ft. Jackson – Ivan L. “Sparky” Hollenbeck, 96, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena. Arrangements are with the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Following Ivan’s wishes there will be no public services. Born on January 5, 1921 in Ft. Jackson, Ivan is the son of the late Ivan Harrison and Lillie Schwartz Hollenbeck. He attended schools in North Lawrence, Ft. Jackson and St. Regis Falls. He married Virginia McAllister at the Nicholville Parsonage on August 27, 1941 with Rev. Skelton officiating. Virginia passed away on November 17, 1994. Ivan worked for his father at I. H. Hollenbeck Feed and Coal in Moira, was a rope shovel operator for the Town of Hopkinton, worked at Credle Equipment, worked on the construction of the Adirondack Northway, and retired from Bicknell Bros. Sand and Gravel in Potsdam in 1984. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local # 545; a charter member of the Hopkinton-Ft. Jackson Fire Department; a 50 year member of the Nicholville Lodge then Brasher Lodge # 541 F & AM; an honorary member of the Sylvan Falls Club and was a member of the NRA for most of his life. He is survived by two sons; Jack of North Lawrence and James of Ft. Jackson, five grandchildren, Loren and his companion Jamie Pellerin of Hopkinton, Crystal and Mike Smith of Ft. Jackson, Melanie Kingston of North Lawrence, Jake Hollenbeck and Shelby Hollenbeck, both of Ft. Jackson, six great grandchildren; James, Cheyenne and Travis Hollenbeck, Arleigh and Jack Smith and Noah Eakins, a sister in law Elizabeth “Betty” McAllister of Ft. Jackson and many nieces and nephews. Ivan was predeceased by his wife, one great grandson, Gaige Smith and a daughter in law, Sharon Hollenbeck. Donations in his memory can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, Inc
