Obituary of Robert J. Cummings

Winthrop -- Mr. Robert J. Cummings, age 53, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Gaston, SC on June 23, 2017. Local arrangements have been entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, where visitation will be held Thursday, August 17th from 5 to 7 pm. A Memorial Mass for Robert will be Friday. August 18th at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls at 10 am. Robert was born in Massena, the son of Harry Cummings and the late Beverly (Wilmart) Cummings on March 2, 1964. He graduated from St. Lawrence Central High School and worked at Clarkson University before moving to Gray, Maine for a time. On August 25, 1990, he married Kathleen Schmitz at St. Patricks Church in Brasher Falls. Robert loved cooking and the outdoors. He was an avid four wheeler rider and hunter. He will be most remembered as a loving and dedicated husband and father. Robert made his home in South Carolina for the past eight years and has worked as a maintenance technician working on heavy equipment.. Besides his wife Kathleen, he is survived by his daughters who were the loves of his life, Lenere and Grace of Gaston, SC; his father, Harry and his wife, Joyce of Winthrop; his sisters, Dawn (Michael) Masterson of Budd Lake, NJ and Shelley (James) Mason of Potsdam; three nieces, Sarah, Jessica and Colbie and a nephew A.J.
